Central School of Speech & Drama, one of Capital Enterprise’s newest members, provided a free presentation skills workshop to Capital Enterprise members last Friday that was very well attended. CSSD used some of the latest drama techniques to help participants (including four Chief Executives whose names will remain secret) to develop their voice, speech and body language so that they can become better “Public Speakers”.
In the CSSD taster workshop our members were taught through a number of highly effective and amusing games such as;
- Breathing techniques (diaphragmatic breathing)
- Vocal exercises
- Mirroring (copying body language)
- Role playing (communication types – Like cats: want respect // dogs: want to be liked)
- Presentation styles
As well as being a great deal of fun, most of those who did attend found that they learnt some invaluable techniques and lessons on how to improve the way that communicate both on a personal level and when addressing the public.
I am sure that you are aware Central School of Speech & Drama is internationally renowned for providing training for actors and theatre artists; alumni include Laurence Olivier, Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Gael Garcia Bernal and Catharine Tate. For 15 years Central has trained external clients by transferring the skills used in the training of actors; through the development of voice, speech and body language we can improve communication skills, change embedded behaviours and build confidence. Their work has been featured in The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Daily Mail, Radio 4, Radio 2, BBC News, BBC4, BBC Radio London and ITV2.
