UrbanThings specialise in building award-winning transit apps and revolutionary m-Ticketing solutions. Their innovative mobile ticketing products are rolling out to bus passengers throughout the United Kingdom, and Bristol City Council have used their API to publish a wealth of transport data.

 

Vacancies available:

 

  1. Mobile development

We have a very strong mobile team and some great projects that we are working on. An internship with our mobile team would be great to gain some experience in commercial app development, and to use some of the latest mobile tech and methodologies. Example projects might be:

* Bluetooth (BLE) detection R&D

* Automated UI testing and CI

We would be looking for students and graduates with a keen interest in native mobile development, for either iOS or Android.

Useful Skillsets: Android or iOS development, Java, Kotlin, Swift Bluetooth

 

  1. Front-end development

We are also building some great web-based tools for transport operators and passengers alike, using the latest web frameworks and paradigms. Example projects might be:

* Mapping location information in real time

* Automated UI testing and CI

We would be looking for students and graduates with a keen interest in front end development and a desire to learn recent JavaScript based technologies.

Useful Skillsets: JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, angulares, react, vue

 

  1. .Net Backend and API development

We build many microservices to power our apps and web portals leveraging Microsoft’s .Net framework. Example projects in this area may be:

* Client specific RESTful API and gateway implementations

* Centralised configuration and monitoring solutions

* Migration to .Net Core

We would be looking for students and graduates with an interest in backend development, and a desire to learn robust programming and architecture techniques.

Useful Skillsets: C#, RESTful APIs, Java

 

  1. DevOps engineering

In order to support our development teams, we utilise DevOps to empower developers to manage their automated build and deployment pipelines. Example projects in this area may be:

* Centralised logging, monitoring and alerting platforms

* Continuous delivery and deployment platforms

* Infrastructure-as-code and automated infrastructure deployment

For this area, we would be looking for students and graduates with an interest in infrastructure, networking, scripting and development, and the full software lifecycle.

Useful Skillsets: AWS knowledge, docker, groovy, PowerShell, Unix
